Ecologies of Creole Multilingualism workshop

Workshop programme

As part of my recent AHRC-funded postdoc in sociolinguistics, I organised a hybrid workshop entitled ‘Ecologies of Creole Multilingualism’ to bring together people working on Creole languages and introduce the topic to interested staff and students in Oxford.

The hybrid nature allowed me to invite three academics from the University of Mauritius to present their research and also welcome participants from Mauritius, the US and Europe.

There were invited talks from Creole experts, early career researchers and introductory sessions on Creole languages too. The ‘Working with Creole data’ session encouraged participants to work together to identify similarities and differences between Mauritian and Louisiana Creole, drawing on the background presentations given by me on Mauritian Creole and Dr. Oliver Mayeux on Louisiana Creole.
